About me

I am Dr Natasha Oyibo, a flexible and ambitious risk communication expert who has gained a sound knowledge of the maternal health situation in Nigeria, while working on my PhD thesis.

In order for health interventions to be successful, it is necessary to consistently develop innovative and inclusive solutions to encourage stakeholder’s inclusion in decision-making, regardless of their language, demographics, gender or age.

My Doctorate research focused on understanding stakeholder’s mental models, in order to tease out underlying reasons of why and how decisions are made. This is an important step in bridging the information and communication gaps for efficient results.

My thesis included using the Mental Model Approach as a tool for risk communication, specifically between the maternal health experts and the Nigerian women of childbearing age. The research process led to the development of an expert mental model framework of maternal mortality in Rivers State, Nigeria, and revealed some other key findings that can be shared upon request.
Working with several qualitative techniques and utilising quantitative tools, I have proposed high quality solutions tailored to meet stakeholder’s need.

Tool box/Expertise:

- Qualitative techniques: In-depth interviews (semi-structured and unstructured), and Focus group discussion
- Quantitative tools: SPSS and Minitab
- Operating Systems: Windows and MAC.
